Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw

The Fast & Furious series has always been fun and exhilarating, filled with fast cars, muscled men and things exploding. If you love all those things, this movie will not disappoint. The plot is different than the others. However, I enjoyed this one more so than the last couple in the series.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays Luke Hobbs; a lawman on loan to the CIA and a single parent. Jason Statham is Deckard Shaw, a disgraced member of the British military. Helen Mirren plays Shaw’s mother. She is in prison for robbery, I believe.

She is a hoot in her red prison jumpsuit dolled up with her neck and ears adorned with rubies and diamonds. The two come together to save the world from a cyber altered villain, Brixton, played by Idris Elba. If you’re anything like this Mimi, this movie provides a whole lotta yummy!

Vanessa Kirby plays Shaw’s sister, Hattie. Hattie gets into some trouble at the beginning regarding a weaponized serum intended to destroy the world. Brixton wants the serum, of course, and fails in his attempt. Needless to say, there is a massive gunfight, lots of booms and pows and people die. Hattie escapes with serum in hand, narrowly escaping and goes on the run. Brixton blames everything on Hattie, so everyone believes she is responsible for all the killing and stealing the cyber enhanced warhead called Snowflake.

Hobbs and Shaw have worked together before and spend a lot of time bickering back and forth. Hobbs is more of a straight arrow kind of guy while, Shaw is a rebel. They don’t like each other. The mission is to find Hattie before Brixton.

By the time they find Hattie, she has injected the serum into herself to keep it safe. Of course, the serum will explode into her body and infect the world in just a few hours. Somewhere Hobbs and Hattie begin to find some sexual chemistry.

The end of the movie takes you to beautiful Samoa where Hobbs grew up. It affords a family reunion of sorts, especially between Hobbs and his brothers.

The WWE superstar, Ro man Reigns has a bit of a cameo appearance. Like I said, a whole lotta yummy! A battle between good and evil ensues. Hobbs, Shaw and Hattie save the world and live to see another day.

This movie has great special effects like self-propelling motorcycles and crazy crash ups. There are precious moments between Hobbs and his young daughter played by Eliana Su’a. As well as between Shaw and his sister Hattie. It’s full of funny and affords a silly respite from all things COVID19.
