Kingston’s fast pitch softball team scored five victories in a busy seven-game opening week, including a pair of district shutouts.
The Lady Redskins were dominant in 13-0 and 12-0 triumphs on the road at Hugo ahead of a 3-1 setback to powerhouse North Rock Creek in the first game of the Ripley Tournament. The squad rebounded however to throttle Wyandotte (13-0) and Glencoe (12-0).
They will be in Oklahoma City later this week for the Annual Hall of Fame Festival at Devon Park. Kingston faces Glencoe and Morris on Thursday as well as Dibble on Friday.
Kanna Stroud and Khloe Hall combined for a two-hit shutout in the first Hugo outing withHallandMadiHammond teaming for a three-hit shutout in the second contest.
Coach Aaron Minor’s club scored early and often, including a six-run explosion in the first frame of the opener that was highlighted by a Stroud two-run double. She finished with three hits, including a home run, and drove in five to pace the offensive charge.
Gracie Bridgman, Ava Bain and Dextry Bowerman all chipped in a pair of hits in the 11-hit Kingston assault.
The Lady Redskins exploded for nine runs in the first stanza of game two and never looked back, capitalizing on eight walks and three hit batters. Hammond was the lone player with multiple hits, belting a double and triple.
Kingston wrapped up with a 5-3 advantage in hits facing North Rock Creek but came up short in the scoring department as a late rally fell short.
Trailing 3-0 heading into the final stanza, the Lady Redskins found their offensive rhythm. Hammond, Destry Davis, Kate Ratzlaff and Stroud strung together consecutive singles with one out but left the bases loaded. Ratzlaff had the other Kingston hit in the contest.
The late offensive surge carried over into the Wyandotte game as the Lady Redskinsnotchedaruninthe opening frame before erupting with eight in the second to put it away as they cashed in five Wyandotte errors.
Stroud and Hammond were dominant in the pitching circle as well by combining for a no hitter.
Bowermanblastedahome run as part of her two hits anddroveintwowhileStroud contributed a pair of doubles along with three RBI. Ratzlaff also tallied two hits and knocked in a run.
The Glencoe game was nearly out of reach from the start as Kingston reeled off 12 first inning runs fueled by two more doubles and four RBI from Stroud. Bridgman checked in with two hits and knocked in three. Ratzlaff and Bain also provided two hits.
Bowerman tossed in a triple with Keeton Hatley, EmmaBridgemanandDavis also adding a hit apiece.
That was plenty of offense for Stroud and Hall as they combined to fire a one-hit shutout.
