Musings and memories

When you were a child; how did you respond to rules or things that you were told by your parents? I tried to obey, sometimes to a fault.

We lived about three very long blocks to Sam Rosen Elementary School in Ft. Worth. It was the same school my mother attended. She, my brother and I had the same first grade teacher; Mrs. Bostick.

There was no kindergarten back then. I went through second grade and my brother through first grade. One day, it was raining and I had to wear my galoshes over my shoes.

I was told to wear them home. My brother and I sat on the step at school and I struggled to get them back on. Yes, I was obeying, but mother didn't say I had to wear them home if it wasn't raining.

Next, when the Easter Egg Hunt came; it was held across the street from the school in a vacant lot with a garageontheproperty.Oneof the room mothers explained that you could hunt for eggs anywhere on the lot except for by the garage.

I was happy to look for the eggs in the specific spot until the prize egg was found by the garage where we were not supposed to hunt. I assumed the room mother was one of those mothers who made the rule, then told her daughter where the prize egg was hidden.

That traumatizes me every Easter. I have never really let it go no matter how hard I try.

Probably the best part of second grade when my crush chased me to the edge of the playground to kiss me. I am not a fast runner.

He attended my birthday party at my '2nd' mother's house. We had cake, Coca Cola in the bottles and ice cream in the foil packages.

He is on Facebook. I wonder if he remembers?
