Rob and Connie Sloan Kendrick of South 12th Avenue have officially been awarded the prestigious May Yard of the Month title. Their property stands out as a vibrant neighborhood masterpiece, capturing the true essence of spring with an impressive mix of textures, colors and wildlife-friendly features.
The front of the Kendrick home features a dense, multicolored display of carefully selected annuals and perennials. Visitors are warmly greeted by SunPatiens blooming in a rich variety of colors, alongside lantana and periwinkles that provide continuous, heat-tolerant color. Sweet potato vines cascade gracefully beside red and yellow million bell flowers, while hardy coneflowers, classic geraniums in striking shades of red and pink, and deep purple salvia frame the foundation of the house.
On the corner of the property, a separate showcase bed mirrors these design elements while introducing its own unique focal points. This high-visibility space contains repeated plantings of million bells, salvia and sweet potato vines for visual continuity, mixed with bold, architectural dahlias, bright red petunias and red and pink begonias tucked neatly between the foliage. A cheerful, standout Gerbera daisy acts as the singular point of interest to complete the corner display.
Beyond the plant life, the Kendrick yard is highly celebrated for its welcoming atmosphere and artistic decorations. Tending to local wildlife, the couple installed multiple birdhouses, hummingbird feeders and a clean birdbath right near the dense foliage. As day turns to night, the garden continues to shine thanks to shepherd's rods equipped with glowing solar balloon lights, creating a magical evening backdrop that seals their well-deserved win for the month of May.
The Yard of the Month program aims to foster citywide pride and recognize the hard work of residents who go above and beyond. By showcasing such dedication, the program encourages others to invest in their homes and contribute to the overall beauty of Madill.
