The Madill Wildcats bounced back from tough district losses early in the week to dispatch Marietta, 11-4, last Thursday and capture their first victory of the season.
Coach Jared Hayes’ squad had a handful of games slated to start this week before taking off for the remainder of SpringBreak.Theyareslated to return to league action on Monday at Community Christian.
Powerhouse Lone Grove was a difficult assignment in the district setbacks as the Wildcats came out on the short end of 19-2 and 18-1 decisions.
In the opener, Madill plated a pair of runs without the aid of a hit as Cooper McHattonandTynerRoberts each scored after reaching on walks. Roberts also stole a pair of bases. They were credited with five hits in the second battle, including two singles by Abram Osornio. Derwin Sanchez, Roberts and Jagger Rogers tallied one hit each.
Things went much better against Marietta as the Wildcats rode a complete game pitching performance from McHatton to the victory. He scattered seven hits, struck out a whopping 10 and walked three.
After spotting the Indians a 4-0 lead through three frames, Madill came storming back with seven runs in the fourth stanza alone. Roberts was hit by a pitch before Rogers and Daquan Williams walked to load the bases with one out.
Jayse Thompson then delivered a double to center that plated two as Rankin Page and Dillon Davis followed with RBI singles that knotted the score. A Sanchez single kept the hitting flurry going aheadofback-to-backdoubles from McHatton and Roberts that helped push across the remaining runs.
Osornio’s lead off double in the fifth stanza ignited another two-run charge and the Wildcats tacked on a pair of tallies in the seventh to cap the scoring.
Madill racked up a seasonhigh 14 hits in the contest with Sanchez’s three leading the charge. Orsonio, Thompson and Page posted two apiece while McHatton, Roberts, Rogers, Davis and Williams each contributed one.
