Kingston boys snag regional title, girls advance

Kingston boys moved within one victory of returning to the 3A State Tournament for the first time since 2022 with a sweep to the regional championship last week.

The Lady Redskins meanwhile will need three victories after falling in the regional title tilt.

Area playoff action begins on Thursday at Madill with the Lady Redskins meeting Heritage Hall in an elimination contest at 1 p.m. while the Redskins also face Heritage Hall for the area crown on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls

The Lady Redskins began the week emphatically enough, riding a monster second quarter to a 48-30 win over 14th rated Valliant.

Kingston held a slim 16-13 edge after one quarter before erupting on a 17-2 spree in the second frame, fueled by seven points by Keeton Hatley, in taking control.

Leading 33-15 at the half, the Lady Redskins played a stalematefinaltwoperiodsas each team notched 11 points in the third and four points in the fourth stanza.

Hatley tallied 14 points to lead three Kingston double figure scorers. Avery Ludrick tossed in 13 and Cassidy Walker hit for 11. They also picked up six points from Destry Davis with Taylie Wiebener and Dilynn Weeks adding two apiece.

The Lady Redskins then ran into a buzz saw in the championship matchup, falling to top-ranked Washington (78-36) on the Lady Warriors’ home floor.

Boys

An early scoring blitz and stout defense provided the spark for the Redskins as they ran away for a 68-25 win over Valliant in the regional opener.

Kingston pushed to a 13-2 advantage after one stanza and also outscored the visitors 19-2 in the second for a commanding 32-4 halftime cushion. They continued to pour it on in the third with a 23-point explosion topped by nine from Jack Hinsley, who wrappedupwithagame-high 19 points.

Brock Rumer sank three treys and powered in 13 points as Blane Henry checked in with 12. Parks Ratzlaff and Bowen McAdams each notched eight, Reid Patterson had five with two from Lander Burkhalter and one by Hudson Everhart.

A nip-and-tuck battle with eighth-ranked Lindsay turned squarely in the Redskin direction during the third stanza as they pulled away for a 63-52 victory.

Rumer was the catalyst with three consecutive treys and had 11 points in the quarter as Kingston posted a 21-16 scoring edge to begin breaking it open. He finished with a game-best 24 points.

Hinsley provided another solid outing as well with 20 points with Ratzlaff also reaching double figures with 10. Henry tallied four, Everhart had three and Burkhalter scored two.
