Madill girls claimed runner- up honors while the boys took home the consolation championship from the Konawa Invitational last weekend.
The Wildcats also cruised to a sweep of Tishomingo in regular season action early last week.
For the girls it was a 3-1 week as the Lady Wildcats pulled away late to start the run with a 52-36 win over Tishomingo. Madill pitched a first quarter shutout on the way to a 68-10 throttling of Seminole and followed with a 52-31 victory against Madill. They fell just short of the title, however, losing to Destiny Christian in a 49-45 verdict.
Coach Kyle Jessie’s Wildcats blasted Tishomingo, 7243, early in the week but fell to conference rival Byng by a 74-61 count in the tournament lid lifter. They bounced back for a 69-53 decision against Seminole and 55-42 over Destiny Christian.
Girls
Although they grabbed an 11-4 lead after one period against Tishomingo, the Lady Wildcats struggled to put the Lady Indians away.
It was 21-19 at halftime and 34-32 following three stanzas before Madill went on an 18-4 scoring surge in the final period. Senior Lamiyah Brown was the catalyst with 15 points with Karma Williams adding 10 and R.J. Combs another nine.
Madill put on a dominant clinic in the tournament opening win over Seminole as they raced to a 22-0 edge after one quarter. It was 44-2 at halftime and 59-4 through three stanzas.
Brown sank three treys in the first half and notched all 21 of her points before intermission. Combs drilled four three pointers and tallied 12 with Arlette Andrade posting 10 and Chloe Miller six.
The Lady Wildcats actually trailed 11-10 after a quarter versus Wewoka but quickly took command by notching 15-7 and 14-4 runs in the next two periods.
Andrade and Williams pumped in 11 points each to tie for team-high scoring honors. Brown contributed 10, Combs had nine and Allyson Coles totaled eight points.
CoachCarlosHumphrey’s troops got off to a solid start with a 12-11 first period lead in the championship but Destiny was able to answer with a 19-9 edge in the second to claim the advantage.
Madill narrowed the gap to 40-37 heading to the final stanza but the comeback fell just a bit short.
Brown erupted for 22 points and was the lone Lady Wildcat in double figures. Combs posted six, Williams and Jade Soto had five apiece with four by Miller and two from Coles.
Boys
The Wildcats evened their season record at 5-5 with the consolation title run while equaling the girls with a 3-1 mark on the week.
That push began against Tishomingo as the Wildcats blasted their way to a 25-4 cushion through one period and they cruised home from there.
Jagger Rogers poured in 12 first half points on the way to a game-high 19. Cash Cooper added 11 with nine from Sammy Duran along with Christian Smith’s eight points.
Madill exploded for 13 treys against Byng but it wasn’t quite enough against the very athletic Pirate in a 74-61 loss.
Rogers and Cooper each sizzled the nets for four three pointers as Rogers led the way with 20 points and Cooper reeled off 12. Duran also had three treys and nine points while Brayden Jowers and Jaxon Diaz scored seven apiece.
Facing Seminole, Madill steadily pushed the lead throughout the second half as Rogers and Jowers poured in 18 points apiece. Duran notched nine with Ryan Anderson adding seven.
The Wildcats wrapped up the tournament and consolation crown after getting off to a great start, including 22 first quarter points. Jowers and Rogers combined for 15 of their total points in quarter number one.
Jowers paced the offense with 19 points to lead three double figure scorers.
Rogers posted 11 and Duran hit double figures with 10 points.
