Lady Cats, Redskins claim early county battles

It took a big overtime effort but Madill held onto the Marshall County traveling trophy last week while Kingston rode a huge effort from junior Jack Hinsley to forge the hardwood split.

Lamiyah Brown came up big for the Lady Wildcats downthestretchforthe44-36 verdict in the opening game before the Redskins grabbed control early in the nightcap by scoring the game’s first eight points.

The Marshall County rivals are slated to meet again on January 16 in Kingston.

Girls

It was a dogfight throughout with neither team giving much of an inch through four periods after a 6-6 deadlock in the first round.

Kingston edged in front 18-17 at halftime spurred by half its points from Cassidy Walker and carried a 29-26 edge to the final frame. That’s when Brown went to work however as she tossed in all eight Madill points to rally the Lady Wildcats and force the extra frame tied at 34.

The senior catalyst continued the surge with another five of the Lady Wildcats’ 10 overtime points as they yielded just two in posting the emotional victory.

Brown racked up a gamehigh 24pointsinvictorywhile Arlette Andrade had a solid performance in contributing 13 as well. R.J. Combs had three with two points apiece from Chloe Miller and Jade Soto, who knocked down both her overtime free throw attempts.

Cassidy Walker led a balanced attack for Kingston, reaching double digits with 10 points. Dextry Bowerman added eight, Taylie Wiebener hadsix,AveryLudrickscored five, Dilynn Weeks posted four and Olivia McAlister finished with three points.

Boys

The Wildcats could never find an answer for Hinsley around the paint as he got off to a hot start and never cooled.

Kingston’s offensive leader showed an omen of things to come with 13 points in the opening frame to help stake the Redskins to a 22--15 advantage. That cushion increased to 36-24 at intermission and 47-28 at the end of three stanzas.

Hinsley finished off a superb night with a pair of offensive putbacks in the closing minutes to tack on the final Wildcat points of the evening.

Hayden Seeney was the only other Redskin in double digits, canning four three pointers on his way to 12 points. Brock Rumer tallied eight, Blane Henry had five, Bowen McAdams scored four and Reid Patterson pitched in one point.

Sophomore Brayden Jowers got off to a fast start for Madill, scoring 13 of his team’s 15 first quarter points but did not score again and ended as the lone Wildcat in double figures.

Jagger Rogers pumped in six, Sammy Duran had five with Cash Cooper, Adrian Gomez and Jaxon Diaz each accounting for four. Ryan Anderson and Christian Smith both tallied one point.
