Barbosa medals, Madill boys 11th at state

Senior Yadira Barbosa earned another state medal on the girls’ side while the Madill boys took 11th as a team in the Class 4A State Cross Country Championships last weekend at North Rock Creek High School in Shawnee.

Barbosa clocked in with a time of 12 minutes, 17 seconds on the 3.2 K course to earn a 12th place individual finish and lead the charge for the Lady Wildcats, who claimed 18th as a team.

Adding to the Lady Wildcats’ effort was Isabell Stuckey, who was 113th in 14:18.9, Katelyn Acquaviva checked in 117th at 14:27.7, Caylee Martinez took 130th in 14:41.5, Jeylah Cabrales added a mark of 14:43.6 for 132nd place, Jayleen Vasquez posted a 137th in 15:00.3 while Lexington Willis rounded things out in 146th crossing the stripe at 18:18.8.

The Wildcats had five Top 100 individual performances on the way to the solid team showing that was fueled by freshman Jayden Barbosa, who notched a mark of 17 minutes, 43.5 seconds over the boys’ 5K course.

Jose Campos contributed a 62nd place time of 18:09.1, Ryder Douglas was 75th in 18:18.4, Alex Orta claimed 89th at 18:31.9 with Blane Hawthorne checking in 92nd with a mark of 18:34.7.

Other Wildcat placers were Gael Gallegos in 112nd at 19:07.8 and Aroddy Camacho in 139th with a time of 20:40.6.
