Kingston romps in Week 1, eyes Fairview

Coming off a strong opening week performance in a 64-2 victory over Madill in the Marshall County Super Bowl, the Kingston Redskins squarely have their focus set on a big Top 10 showdown on the road Friday at Fairview.

The perennial Class A power Yellowjackets provided the Redskins’ lone regular season loss 35-28 at Kingston a year ago and Coach Brad Hill’s club will be looking for some revenge in its three and a half hour trek to northwest Oklahoma.

Although they lost a record- setting quarterback to graduation, Fairview is definitely still capable as shown by its 56-0 shellacking of Class 2A regular contender Alva in the opening week.

Even though the Yellowjackets have a new signalcaller they did not miss much of a beat with junior running back Alex Houk and his 15 rushing touchdowns back along with junior Haddon Miller, who accounted for 47 catches for 566 yards receiving.

There’s also several key returnees on the defensive side of the ball for Fairview, including all three linebackers in Houk, Colt Hamen and Ridge Cottrill.

Kingston will be looking to get off to another fast start, muchlikeaweekagoinwhich they raced to a 36-0 edge after one quarter and were in front 58-0 at intermission.

Reid Patterson rumbled 24 yards to paydirt for the opening score of the night and Logan Stephens added scoring bursts of 18 and 23 yards on the next two possessions. That was pretty much the bulk of the duty for the starting Kingston backfield as 12 rushers all picked up carries while totaling 284 yards and seven scores on the ground.

Parks Ratzlaff also scored on one of his two first half carries and tallied a team-best 64 yards. Stephens posted 56 yards, Ethan Mowles added four totes for 51 yards and a score with Koewyn Young checking in with four carries for 51 yards as well.
