Wegner
Edward Lloyd Wegner, Sr., 99, passed away July 16, 2025 at The Sulphur Veterans Center in Sulphur, Okla. Born on March 19, 1926, in Flint, Mich., he was the eldest son of Edward and Velma Wegner.
EdgraduatedfromFentonHighSchool and enlisted in the United States Army, June 1944. Ed was honorably discharged in1946andwastherecipientoftheBronze Star and Purple Heart.
Ed married Lois Jean Curtis in December 1947. A proud Spartan, Ed graduated from Michigan State University with both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics and statistics.
In his younger years, Ed enjoyed golf and bowling and was always up for a game of cards. He was very active with the Shrine International in Lincoln, Nebraska, Muskegon, Michigan and Kansas City, Mo. He and Lois thoroughlyenjoyedtheweekendparades,socialeventsand volunteering that were part of the Shrine International. Ed served as director of Mini Model T’s and Potentate’s Aid of the Ararat Temple in Kansas City, Mo. Ed always had more than one hobby and loved woodworking and fishing well into his 90’s.
Ed was preceded in death by parents, Ed and Velma Wegner; brothers, Kenneth, Harold and Franklin Wegner; his beloved wife of 72 years, Lois Jean Wegner.
Ed is survived by his two sons, Edward “Eddie” L. Wegner, Jr. and wife Jan of Surprise, Ariz., Harold Wegner and wife Susanne of Kingston, Okla.;, four grandchildren, Amy Zang and husband Billy, Leslie Meadows and husband Brett, Edward Scott Wegner and wife Jenifer, Melinda “Mindy” Wanjala and husband John; nine greatgrandchildren, LexiJohnsonandhusbandColby,IanZang, Abby Zang, Chase Meadows, Jake Meadows, Isaac Zang, Ainsley Zang, Makena Wanjala and John “Jack” Wanjala; and one great-great grandson, Jax Johnson.
The Memorial Service will be Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Watts Memorial Chapel in Madill, Okla. Internment will be at 2:30 p.m. on October 10, 2025, at The Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Mich. Services will be under the direction of Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Okla.
