Madill baseball season ends in regionals

Madill ran into a buzzsaw in the opening game and then dropped a nailbiter in the second to bow out of the Class 4A regional baseball playoffs last week.

The Wildcats fell 9-0 to host Chickasha ahead of a narrow 5-4 setback to Woodward as a late rally fell short.

In the opener, Madill notched a pair of singles by Tyner Roberts and Michael Cramp to start the third inning but that’s as far as the offensive threat got. Mikal Pruitt chipped in the final of three Wildcat hits with a fourth-inning single.

Madill jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first stanza of game two as Cooper McHatton walked, stole second and then scored on a Pruitt ground out.

Woodward tied the game with a tally in the second frame but the Wildcats again had an answer with a run in the fourth. Daquan Williams led off with a walk, moved around on a ground out by Jowers and then came across on another ground out off the bat of Roberts.

Although the Boomers erupted for four runs to take theleadforgoodinthebottom of the inning, Madill refused to fold.

The Wildcats plated a run in the fifth, cashing in free passes to James Valadez and McHatton as Derwin Sanchez delivered the run with a single.

Neely contributed a twoout double that scored Jowers, who had walked, but was left stranded as the potential tying run. They worked for a couple more base runners in the seventh after McHatton coaxed a walk and Pruitt singled but a double play ended the rally and ultimately season for the Wildcats.
