Several impressive performances highlighted the Madill High School track and field team’s first meet of the seasononanextremelywindy Friday before Spring Break.
Junior Yadira Barbosa had two of the squad’s first place medals in the ultracompetitive event, claiming the 1,600 and 3,200-meter run titles. Her time in the 1,600 was 6:03.57 and also clocked in with a 13:17.47 for the 3,200.
The Wildcats’ 3,200 relay unit of Jose Campos, James Valadez, Ryder Douglas and Jagger Rogers ran to gold as well, posting a time of 8:40.90. One individual title came from Charles Thomas, cruising to a 26.41 mark in the 200 meters while teammate Jose Menchacawasclosebehindin fourth at 26.77 seconds.
Douglas also captured the crown for the 400 meters, crossing the stripe in 53.79 secondswhileJoseMenchaca placed fifth in 56.56 and Joaquin Menchaca was eighth at 57.94.
Valadez finished just behind the leader to take runner-up honors in the boys’ 3200 meters at 10:39.30. Campos was second as well in the 1600 meters, notching a mark of 4:51.07.
Leading the third-place efforts was the boys’ 1,600 relay grouping of Jose and Joaquin Menchaca along with Douglas and Jaxon Diaz as they cruised to a time of 3:51.45.
The others came in field events with Gilberto Grimaldo scoring a third in the shot put with a heave of 42 feet, 7 ¼ inches as teammate Trace Pruitt ended eighth at 36 feet, 8 inches. In the boys vault the Wildcats had a trio of placers led by Triston Barnes’ 10-feet even that took third. Edward Wagoner was sixth at seven feet and Vincent Acquaviva wrapped up seventh at six feet even.
Karmony Pearson had a solid effort of 15 feet, 6 inches in posting a third in the long jump while Lucy Douglas finished fourth at 15 feet, 5 inches.
Campos took fourth in the boys’ 800 meters at 2:15.71 while Gael Gallegos checked in seventh in 2:19.09 and Ryan Anderson was eighth at 2:19.44. Jagger Rogers also contributed a fourth place effort of 5 feet, 6 inches to wrap up fourth in the high jump.
On the girls’ side in running events, Hadon Stuckey checked in fourth in the 200 meters in 30.21 seconds with Joshlynn Clayburn just behind in 30.52. Nene StumblingbearledtheMadill charge in the 400 meters with a time of 1:07.61 as La Taylor ended fifth at 1:08.99 and Zeplyn Thomas was eighth in 1:10.19.
Thomas crossed in 14.09 seconds for fifth place in the girls 100 meters with Clayburn claiming eighth at 14.2. Grimaldo was fifth as well in the discus at 134 feet.
There were a trio of sixth place performances in the girls division where Barbosa ended sixth in the 800 meters in 2:42.29. Stumblingbear addedasixthinthehighjump at 4 feet, 6 inches. Stuckey wrapped up fifth in the pole vault with a jump of 7 feet, 6 inches.
Charles Thomas sprinted to a 12.32 finish in the 100 meters for eighth with Katelyn Acquaviva also ending eighth in the 3200-meter run at 16:09.73..
