Kingston teams each roll to three victories

Brock Rumer’s length of the court driving buzzerbeater started a strong week for the Kingston Redskin basketball teams as they wound down the regular season with three victories on both the girls and boys sides.

The 13th ranked Lady Redskins had few troubles in bouncing Dickson (51-23) and Sulphur (52-34) before needing to erase a halftime deficit in toppling Hugo (7152) as they improved to 15-7 on the year.

Kingston’sboysmeanwhile scored the 37-36 nail-biting win against Dickson on the Rumer game winner ahead of toppling Sulphur (53-37) and Hugo (52-45) behind a massive second quarter to up its season mark to 14-8.

The Redskins will open the Class 3A district playoffs at home Saturday at 6 p.m. against Lone Grove while the Lady Redskins received a bye into the regional round.

Girls

Big first period scoring eruptions proved to be the catalysts for the Lady Redskins in the Dickson and Sulphur triumphs.

Facing Dickson, Kingston raced to a 23-4 edge after one stanza and extended that margin to 42-10 at halftime while never looking back.

AveryLudrickandCassidy Walker each powered in 16 points to pace the scoring effort.

Kingston tallied 20 points again in the opening frame against Sulphur but only had a 20-14 advantage before opening it up to 30-18 at halftime and 44-27 through three quarters.

Joley Heydon, who posted eight of the first period points, racked up 13 for the game in leading the offensive charge. Walker tossed in 11, Coby Davis had 10 and Jaci Herndon canned three treys on the way to nine points.

Things were a bit more interesting over the first two frames against Hugo as Kingston rode eight points from Walker to a narrow 14-13 edge at the end of one before the Lady Buffs came alive in the second to capture a 30-27 advantage at intermission.

Kingston however turned on the jets with a 24-point third and 20-point fourth period to pull away.

Walker poured in 24 while spurring the attack as Ludrick and Heydon also reached double figures with 15 and 12 points respectively. Heydon was a perfect 10 for 10 on free throws.

Herndon just missed double digits with nine.

Boys

Rumer scored just eight points but made the final two memorable as Kingston rallied from a 20-11 halftime deficit.

The Redskins narrowed the gap to 29-24 after three periods and then outscored theComets13-7inthefourth.

Hayden Seeney pumped in three treys on the way to a team-high 11 points as Sam Walker contributed 10.

Kingston put on a strong early effort in outscoring Sulphur, 16-4, in a dominant first and then extended the margin to 31-13 at the half before holding off the Bulldogs after the break for the victory.

Rumer nailed four three pointers while notching 16 points with Lander Burkhalter also tallying nine for the Redskins with seven each coming from Hudson Everhart and Blane Henry.

The Hugo battle was a nip and tuck affair until the second stanza when Kingston exploded on a 19-4 scoring flurry in which Walker notched six and Rumer added five points. The Redskins were up 28-9 at halftime and 42-20 at the end of three ahead of a massive Hugo comeback bid over the final eight minutes.

Kingston hit nine treys as a team, topped by three apiece from Rumer and Seeney, who contributed 12 and 11 points respectively. Walker also notched 10.
