It was definitely tough sledding on the road last week for the Kingston Redskins basketball team with three losses while the Lady Redskins managed to pick up a pair of wins.
On the girls’ side, Kingston sandwiched victories over Plainview (60-42) and Holdenville (55-40) around a loss to Newcastle (55-46).
Kingston’s boys saw a big first half lead slip away in a triple-overtime defeat to Plainview (72-64), fell at 4A Newcastle (60-33) as well as at 11th ranked Holdenville (58-53).
The Redskins will have another busy slate coming up to end the regular season, traveling to Sulphur Friday ahead of home games with Hugo and Plainview set for Saturday and next Tuesday.
Girls
Leading by just one point at halftime, Kingston erupted for a 24-9 third quarter flurry to take control in the Plainview triumph as Taylie Wiebener sank a pair of three pointers and scored all of her eight points for the game.
Joley Heydon and Kate Ratzlaff were the offensive catalysts with 15 and 12 points respectively. Jaci Herndon added nine, Wiebener and Cassidy Walker each notched eightwhileCobyDavishadfour and Destry Davis and Avery Ludrick two each.
While Kingston dug an early hole against Class 4A’s sixth-ranked Newcastle, the Lady Redskins hung tough throughout.
They trailed 19-13 after one frame but played dead in the second period as each team tallied 11 points as well as the third when each club notched 13.
Heydon had another big effort with 16 points as Walker also reached double figures with 12.
Herndon pitched in nine points, Ludrick had seven and Wiebener ended with two.
TheLadyRedskinsbounced back against Holdenville, erasing a first period deficit and pulled away in the final two quarters.
Herndon caught fire with five treys on the night as she connected for a game-high 19 points. Heydon added 10 with Davis notching eight, Ludrick seven, Walker six, Wiebener three and Carli Lilley two points.
Boys
The Redskins appeared as if they might run away with the Plainview contest, sprinting to a 14-5 advantage before watching the Indians slowly close the gap.
It was 26-18 at halftime and 41-36 at the end of three ahead of Plainview knotting things up at 54 through four frames. It was still tied at 56 through the first overtime and even at 60 following the second extra session.
Sam Walker provided a big offensive boost for Kingston with a season-high 25 points with Brock Rumer contributing 19.
Hudson Everhart fired in eight Hayden Seeney had seven, Blane Henry tallied four and Lander Burkhalter tallied one.
Facing 4A Newcastle, Kingston managed just two first quarter points and was playingbehindtheeightballall night. It was a 14-2 Newcastle lead after the opening frame, 31-15 at intermission and 4527 following the third stanza.
Scoring was limited as RumerwastheloneRedskinin double figures with 10 points. Seeney had seven, Henry chipped in six, Walker had four while Burkhalter, Reid Patterson and Luke Bellatini each notched two points.
The Redskins got off to a better start against Holdenville with a 15-13 lead after one period but the Wolverines went in front for good during a 12-5 second frame flurry.
Kingston answered by pumping in 18 points in the thirdquartertonarrowthegap to three, but that’s as close as things would get.
Rumer and Walker each hit double figures with 13 and 12 points respectively. Seeney tossed in nine, Burkhalter had eight with Henry adding six and Everhart five.
