Punxsutawney Phil woke up Sunday morning and made his annual winter prediction. Every year on February 2, thousands of people show up in Punxsutawney, Pa. to see what the weather-predicting rodent will say.
Everybody watches with bated breath to see if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow or not. This year, it was reported that he saw his shadow, meaning six more weeks of winter.
The weather in Pennsylvania on Sunday was partly cloudy with temps around 20 degrees and they were expecting snow. Even though the sky was overcast and might affect the Phil’s prediction, the actual prediction took place ahead of time at Gobbler’s Knob.
The prediction has been taking place in Gobbler’s Knob for the past 139 years. Men in top hats read the proclamation.
“Hear ye! Hear ye! Hear ye!Now on this February2nd, Punxsutawney Phil, the seer of seers, the prognosticator of all prognosticators was awakened from his wintery nap at dawn on Gobbler’s Knob, Phil looked to the skies and then, speaking in Groundhogs, directed the President to the proper scroll, which reads…What a way to start a Sunday fun day. You always said you’d make it here one day. To this place, barely big enough to contain ya. To this sweet Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. We’re all here with the elements combined where Mother Nature meets Father Time. To hear the truth - is that a gray sky? Only I know (you can’t trust A.I.). It’s Groundhog Day and maybe life is on a loop, but I miss my burrow, I miss my coop. So, I’m headed back down! There’s a shadow up here! Get ready for six more weeks of winter this year!”
Even though Punxsutawney Phil predicted more winter, the forecast in the southern states doesn’t seem to reflect the prediction with temperatures in the 80s. Many southerners claim that they don’t look to Punxsutawney Phil for the weather prediction, they look for Parish the Nutria rat’s prediction. Parish didn’t see her shadow, so she said the south is looking at an early spring.
