Lady Wildcats cruise, boys fall at Tishomingo

ReturningfromtheChristmas break, Madill basketball teams split games at Tishomingo before having tournament action at Konawa cancelled due to the winter weather barrage.

IttooktheClass4Aeighthranked Lady Wildcats a couple of quarters to shake off rust but once they did it was an avalanche on the way to a 52-23 triumph which upped their season record to 8-1.

The boys’ game was a bit different story with Madill coming out on the short end of a 62-55 decision.

Madill will have another Marshall County showdown with rival Kingston the road Friday for its next hardwood action.

Girls

Points were hard to come by for both teams for a pair of quarters coming out of the holiday break but the Lady Wildcats managed to kick it into high gear nearly tripling their effort from the first two stanzas.

Madill was up 6-4 at the end of one frame as Elexis Holmes had all of her team’s points and then it was only an 11-9 advantage going into intermission.

Coach Eric Holmes’ crew then came alive with arguably their best quarter of the season, erupting for a massive 32-point third frame that was fueled by 17 points from ElexisHolmesalone.E’Niyah Holmes chipped in all eight of her points in the quarter withLa’MiyahBrowntossing in another five points.

Elexis Holmes led the charge with 25 points for the game as Luci Douglas posted double figures as well with 10. In addition to E’Niyah Holmes’ eight, Brown finished with eight as Arlette Andrade added the final Madill point.

Boys

Cash Cooper canned two first quarter three pointers andGilbertoGrimaldoadded a pair of early buckets in a strong start that staked the Wildcats to a 15-11 edge after one period.

Despite Ryan Anderson’s six points in the second frame, Madill managed just eight to trail the Indians 24-23 at the halftime break.

Eachteampumpedin14in a back-and-forth third stanza that saw Jagger Rogers catch fire for eight points. A pair of Sammy Duran treys in the final period kept the Wildcats within striking distance but they were outscored 24-19 thanks largely to a 14 for 18 performance at the free throw line.

Rogers paced three double figure scorers for Madill with 16 points while Anderson contributed 13 and Duran finished with 10.

Cooper pumped in six points, Grimaldo had four as Uriel Flores and Jaxon Diaz added two apiece.
