On Tuesday November 5, Madill High School senior, Kaia Henry signed her letter for intent for college. She is receiving a partial scholarship to Mid America Christian University for her achievements in cross country and track. She will be going from a proud Madill Wildcat to an exciting new member of the Evangels.
Henry has been a state qualifier three times in cross country. She said she figured out what works for her and helps her excel in the sport.
“It’s the distance over speed that makes the runner excel in cross country,” Henry said.
Henry said she loves the outdoor aspect of the sport.
“I love being in nature. I love the trails, I enjoy the scenery in the fall and summer months are my favorites.”
Henry has devoted much of her time to athletics, even investing four years into of wrestling while attending Madill High School. Henry stated when she first started wrestling, there wasn’t as many girls interested in the sport. However, she is happy to see the increase in interest among her female peers over the course of these last four years.
Henrysaidshehasdreams of being a mathematics teacherandacoachsomeday. Henry also said she is excited about staying at the dorms. During a tour of her new campus, she met some fellow teammates and relayed that they were great, making her move an even smoother transition.
Henry boasted about her great support system. She said her parents have been given her immense support along her journey. Her family includesherparents,Michael and Shawna, and her two siblings Kali and Mason. She said she has plans to come home and visit her family and friends regularly.
Henry showed gratitude and respect for her coach, Cale Eidson. Eidson said the respect and gratitude goes both ways.
“It’s been great to watch her and I am proud to see her go on to the next level,” said Eidson.
