MHS to host WWI display

Madill High School is hosting a traveling museum exhibit from the renowned Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History in New York City. In honor of Veterans Day, the exhibit will be over WWI.

This historical exhibit will be showcased for one month and will be open to the public. Anyone from the community will be able to tour this historical exhibitandlearnmore about WWI and the individuals who devoted their lives and service to their country.

The GLI exhibit will showcase WWI and America as it examines the role that the United States played in WorldWarIandtheimpactof this move away from a policy of isolationism. Observers will be able to learn about whatlifewaslikeonthehome front and at what it was like during the war through documents, posters and photos from the GLI Collection.

Among some of the highlights are recruitment broadsides, a pro-war letter by Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson’s 1917 message to Congress, letters, photographs from the Western Front and much more.

The Marshall County Historical Society has joined in for this event by donating some special items from their collection to be on display, as well. Some of the items will be uniforms that were worn, diaries that were kept and other special items that give guests a glimpse into that time and provide our community an opportunity to learn more. They will have a variety of historical items from 21 different veterans who passed in the war and many more that served the country in its time of need, all from veterans who called Marshall County their home.
