Lady Redskins claim regional fastpitch crown

After rallying to win in its final at bat in their first regional game, the Kingston Lady Redskins took care of business emphatically in game two to advance to this week’s Class 3A fastpitch super regional, just one step away from the state tournament.

The Lady Redskins, who were seeded 13th in this week’s coaches poll will face a best-of-3 series at fourth rated Lindsay.

Kingston enters the next round with a 21-13 record following its 4-3 and 6-3 victories against visiting Newkirk in capturing the regional crown.

Trailing 3-2 and down to their final out in the seventh inningoftheopener,theLady Redskins put together an improbable rally for the win. KenadeaElkinsdoubledwith two outs, Ava Bain was hit by apitchandBaileyReaganfollowed with a double to center that scored both runs for the walk off.

Amberly Hallum was the pitching benefactor for the victory in going the distance while scattering 10 hits. She struck out five and walked two.

Kingston pushed across oneruninthesecondframeto take the early lead following a leadoff hit by Khloe Hall. They cashed in a Kate Ratzlaff two-out triple in the fifth to tie on Elkins’ RBI single.

Elkins led the offensive charge with three hits, two of which went for doubles. Ratzlaff, Bain, Reagan, Hall, Amberly Hallum and Kenley Hallum each posted one hit.

The Lady Redskins spotted Newkirk a 2-0 advantage in the second frame of the title tilt but quickly responded to tie the game and eventually grab the lead.

Kenley Hallum’s double in the bottom of the second proved to be the key blow in tying the contest and it was Elkins’ run-scoring double thatpushedKingstoninfront one inning later.

Coach Bain’s squad added key insurance with two runs in the fifth frame and another in the sixth as Kingston outhit the visitors 10-2.

Hall got the pitching start and worked five innings for the victory, yielding three runs (one earned) on just one hit with three strikeouts. Amberly Hallum fired the final two scoreless stanzas for the save, allowing only one hit as well.
