Madill softball picks up three solid victories

An impressive district win over Pauls Valley propelled the Madill Lady Wildcats to three softball victories in action last week.

Coach Jared Hayes’ unit notched the 4-2 triumph against Pauls Valley and then sandwiched an 11-1 victory versus Hugo and strong 10-0 blanking of Fort Gibson around losses to Fletcher and Smithville in the Wright City Tournament last weekend.

Madill traded single runs with Pauls Valley over the first four stanzas before taking the lead for good with a run in the fifth without the aid of a hit. Chloe Miller and Karma Williams each drew free passes and courtesy runner Thomas stole a base and scored on an error.

They tacked on an insurance tally in the top of the seventh when Williams singled home Luci Douglass, who had walked. Williams ended with a team-best two hits with Laila Pickens contributing a double.

That was just enough cushion for Dahlia Marris, who went the distance in the pitching circle, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits while also striking out six over seven innings.

In the blasting of Hugo, Marris and Zep Thomas combined for the pitching triumph, yielding one run on two hits over four frames.

The Lady Wildcat offense meanwhile piled up one of its best performances of the season with 10 hits, paced by three from La Taylor, who also scored three times and drove in a pair. Pickens, Ireland Groeber and Douglass all tossed in two hits and knocked in one apiece.

Madill raced to a six-run first inning against Fort Gibson whileMarrisandThomas combined for a no-hitter, which included six strikeouts and only 34 total pitches over four frames.

Tillie Chapa racked up two hits and drove in three runs with Douglass adding two RBI and one hit.

The Lady Wildcats will return home on Thursday against Tishomingo for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
