Kingston blast Comanche

Bouncing back impressively from a last second loss, the Kingston Redskins put together a dominant performance for a 42-6 Homecoming throttling of Comanche Friday night.

WiththewintheRedskins close out non-district play with a 2-1 record heading into a bye this week. They’ll openleagueplaynextweekat home with a pivotal matchup against two-time defending state semifinalist Kiefer.

Head coach Brad Hill was extremely pleased to see his team come out focused last week, avoiding distractions, and taking care of business from the start.

“We came out focused and struck fast,” Hill commented. “Our defense came out and got a three and out on the opening series and the offense went down and scored. We were able to build a big lead in the first quarter and everybody got to play. It was a solid team victory on Homecoming.

“Our defense really threw a shutout. The only score Comanche had was a muffed punt that they recovered in the end zone. I felt good about how the kids played. It was a good night all the way around and we weren’t distracted. The kids were ready to get back on field after the way the Fairview game ended. You’re always worried about coming out flat on Homecoming, but we avoided that. And the young kids performed well in the second half, which was a positive sign. It was definitely good to get back in the win column.”

After a stop of Comanche on the opening possession, Kingston went to work in rapid fashion, mixing the pass and the run to score on three consecutive drives on the way to a 21-0 first quarter advantage.

Reid Patterson was ultraeffi cient throughout the contest, completing seven of his eight pass attempts for the game. Four of those receptions went for touchdowns with Parks Ratzlaff snagging a pair of those.

Patterson also ran for a first half score as the Redskins built a commanding 35-0 cushion at halftime while completely stifling the Indians’ attack.

Senior Dalton Beshirs contributed a third quarter touchdown on the ground that extended the lead even further before Comanche cashed in a muffed punt deep in Kingston territory for its only points.

“We came out of the nondistrict pretty healthy and got to see everyone in action,” Hill added. “The off week comes at a good time and allows us to heal up from some bumps and bruises and prepare for Kiefer in two weeks to open district.

“We know how big this game is. They were state semifinalists the past two years and have a really good football team. They are a physically strong team with a tradition of winning, like Fairview. They are bigger than Fairview but more of a run-first team that takes advantage of their big linemen. It will be one of the premier games in our district and maybe the entire state next week, so things will be exciting. We are hoping to get all of our weapons back for the district run.”
