Celebrity deaths

The world lost five high-profile celebrities in just as many days. Many people are mourning the deaths of some of the legends that were lost this past week.

Comedic legend Bob Newhart passed away on July 17 at the age of 94 after a few short illnesses. Newhart played Professor Proton on the “Big Bang Theory” and his comedic genius paired well with Sheldon Cooper, the zany scientist played by Jim Parsons. Their dead-pan comedy fed off each other’s talents and allowed the other cast members to interject their own bouts of comedy to make a hilarious chemistry.

Political commentator Lou Dobbs also passed away on July 17 at the age of 78. DobbsappearedonCNNand Fox News, along with countless other political shows.

Richard Simmons was a loveable fitness instructor and TV personality. Simmons passed away on July 13, just one day past his 76th birthday. He fell at his home the day prior, but refused medical treatment. Reports showed that he died from natural causes.

Simmons may have been small in stature, but his personality was larger than the world.Knownforhisexercise tapes called “Sweatin’ to the Oldies”, Simmons was loved by many.

ActorandcomedianPauly Shore took to X to share his feelings after learning the sad news.

“I just got word like everyone else that the beautiful Richard SImmons has passed,” Shore said in the social media post. “I hope you’re at peace and twinkling up in the heavens. You’re one of a kind, Richard. An amazing life, an amazing story.”

Shore is slotted to play Simmons in an upcoming their reasons for showing up aren’t necessarily the best reasons…Like, they don’t really like me and, you know, they have their reasons and good for them, but they don’t actually really like me enough to show up to my funeral.”

Even though Doherty didn’t call out any celebrities by name, she said some would show up to show face.

“[They’ll show up] because it’s the politically correct thing to do, and they don’t want to look bad, so I kinda want to take the pressure off them and I want my funeral to be like a love fest,” she continued. “I don’t want people to be crying or people to privately be like, ‘Thank God that ***** is dead now.’” The world lost multiple celebrity icons since the beginning of the year.

RockandRollHallofFamer, John Mayall passed away on July 22 at the age of 90. Also known as the Godfather of British Blues, Mayall had been fighting health issues for quite some time.

Orlanda Cepeda, a Baseball Hall of Famer, passed away on June 22 at the age of 86. His career began with the New York Giants in 1958 andwontheNLRookieofthe Year award the same year.

Martin Mull, 80, known for his role on Roseanne, passed away on June 26.

Acclaimed actor Donald Sutherland is known for his role as President Snow in “The Hunger Games” franchise. He passed away on June 18 at the age of 88.

Baseball legend Willie Mays passed away at 93 years old on June 17. Known as the “Say Hey Kid,” Mays retired with 660 homers and is known for his over-thehead basketcatchinthe1954 World Series. The New York Giants retired his #24 jersey in 1972.

Americanbasketballplayer Jerry West, passed away on June 11 at 86 years old.

Bill Walton, another American basketball player, passed away on May 26 at the age of 71.

American filmmaker, Morgan Spurlock, passed away at the age of 53 on May 22.

American footballer Jim Otto, 86, passed away on May 18.

Ebrahim Raisi, the eighth president of Iran, passed away on May 18 at 63 years old.

Canadian author Alice Munro passed away on May 12 at the age of 92.

Musician David Sanborn, 78, passed away on May 11.

Steve Albini, an American musician, passed away on May 6 at the age of 61.

British actor Ian Gelder passed away on May 5 at 74 years old.

Richard Tandy, an English musician, passed away on April 30 at the age of 76.

American Rocker Duane Eddy passed away at the age of 86 on April 29.

Race car driver Wally Dallenbach, Sr. passed away on April 28 at the age of 87.

Dicky Betts, an American guitarist, passed away on April 17 at the age of 80.

Charles Osgood, American television writer, passed away at the age of 91 on January 22.

British actress Glynis Johns passed away on January 3 at 100.

Fitness guru Denise Austin took to Instagram after the news broke.

“My heart is hurting that my dear friend and colleague,RichardSimmons, has passed away,' she wrote alongside an image of her and Simmons. 'I am heartbroken, as he is someone l have known and started the aerobics business with over 40 years ago.”

'Every time we were together, wehadsomuchfun… filled with hugs, laughter and tears.. I'll never forget Richard singing through the hallways, hugging my daughters, and even to sending me a letter when my mom passed,” Austin continued. 'I cherished our friendship- and I can’t believe I just reached out less than a month ago. Richard- you have left an impact on us all. Thank you for all your love.. we did so much together in this life. I love you so much. You will forever be in my heart.'

The world lost two more celebrities on July 12; Dr. Ruth Westheimer and Shannon Doherty. Westheimer, who was well-known for her straight-talk advice about sex, was 96 when she passed.

Doherty, best known for her roles on “Charmed” and “Beverly Hills, 90210,” died at the age of 53 after a battle with cancer. Her career took off in 1988 when she was cast in the dark comedy called Heathers.

Over the years, Doherty had beefs with a few other celebrities. Before her passing, she hosted a podcast called “Let’s Be Real” to discuss her dying wishes.

“There’s a lot of people that I think would show up that I don’t want there,” she said on the podcast. “I don’t want them there because old.

Former United States Senator Joe Lieberman passed away on March 26 at 82 years old.

American lawyer and baseball executive Peter Angelos passed away on March 22 at the age of 94.

Musician Eric Carmen passed away on March 10 at 74 years old.

Comedian Steve Lawrence, 88, passed away on March 6.
