This week we present to you, Lisa Leclerc, Fellowship Chairperson.
My name is Lisa Leclerc. I was born in Hawaii, Oahu Island, in June 1964. Life was great living on an island, except that I didn’t know I was on an island.
I was number five of eight children. My parents divorced whenIwasyoung. We moved to Texas when I was 11. I left home when I was 15 to begin my life’s adventure.
By the time I was 21, I was a single mother with three children.Amenitieswerefew, but I made it work.
I worked for international home foods (Ranch Style Beans). Where I met the man that would become my husband in 1996. He had three children from a previous marriage and I had three.
We were like a modern day Brady bunch. To cover both ends of the 6 teens, we share. I left Ranch Style and I applied for a job working for the State of Texas, where I became a juvenile corrections officer. Boy did I get lucky with that job.
They covered our medical insurance from the day I started. That was a financial load off our plate. Within six months, Warren took a leap at a new vareer. He went to work for Union Pacific Railroad. Life seemed to begin smoothing out nicely. Little to smooth.
Now, I’m asked to take custody of my two young nieces. Here I was thinking my child rearing days were about to be over. NOPE, God had other plans.
Two girls, two and four yearsold.Iwasalsobecoming a young grandparent. HERE WE GO AGAIN.
This time, we decided that I would be the stay at home parent. That came with challenges of its own. Lord knows Iloveagoodchallenge.Thank you Jesus.
In 2002/2003, I became a full time volunteer at the elementary school, where I had enroll my nieces. Seems I spent more time at the school than at home.
It was fun, and it kept me active. During the school year, we would take short weekend trips. In the summers, we would take mini vacations.
We spent a lot of time outdoors. Camping, swimming, riding bicycles at the park. Just before the girls went to highschool, wereunitedthem with their mom. As she was now equipped to take over their care.
In 2011, tragedy struck. We lost my son and grandson in a fatal rollover vehicle accident. I still struggle everyday.
During this time, my husband and I were raising my father-in-law, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Some days felt like candy bars. Mounds and Almond Joy. Sometimes we felt like a nut, sometimes we don’t.
In 2013, we are taking my father-in-law on his farewell tour; Vermont and Canada here we come. It was great to see my father-in-law smiling and interacting with his remaining siblings. Only God knew he was still going to be with us for another five years. He passed away at the age of 94. What a great life he lived.
Ourplanwastoretirehere in Kingston. As my husband and I had purchased property here over 20 years ago. Well, that dadgum pandemic hit. So here we are, still five years before he will retire. That’s alright, I will spend this time volunteering here with the fabulous Texoma Fire District ladies Auxiliary.
