The November Yard of the Month award has been presented to Butch and Patti Sparlin, whose beautiful corner property on McArthur Street serves as a welcoming view for all approaching the neighborhood. Their yard is a testament to thoughtful landscaping and dedicated upkeep, providing a splash of color and structured beauty even as the seasons change.
The Sparlins’ yard is a masterful blend of foundational evergreens and deciduous shrubs, offering visual interest and texture year-round. Key plantings include several varieties of Nandina, such as the aptly named‘Firepower’,alongside hardy barberries and classic boxwoods. The addition of Spirea, with its various shades of color, further enhances the vibrant appeal of their corner setup.
Butch Sparlin’s commitment to his yard is legendary among the neighborhood; his dedication is such that the committee had to make two separate visits just to find a photo opportunity when he wasn’t actively working on the landscape.
The Yard of the Month program aims to foster citywide pride and recognize the hard work of residents who go above and beyond to maintain their property. By showcasing such dedication, the program encourages others to invest in their homes and contribute to the community’s overall aesthetic.
