MPS put on soft lockdown

Madill High School had a possible incident occur on Friday, September 23. Somebodyreportedapossible threat of violence.

The report alleged that a student made a concerning statement about “potential violence” and another student overheard the comment and told school officials. Victor Salcedo, the MPS Superintendent, sent out a letter Monday morning to parents regarding the situation.

“We are grateful to our students, faculty and staff for their prompt action in reporting the issue, allowing our administration to initiate an immediate investigation and notify local authorities,” Salcedo said in the letter.

The schools were on a soft lockdown on Monday, September 16, pending the investigation.

“Local law enforcement is currently investigating the matter, and the student involved has been removed from the school premises,” Salcedo continued.

“We encourage you to support your children in speaking with trusted adults such as parents/guardians, teachers, guidance counselors, coaches or administrators if they have any information they wish to share.”

There was another possible threat on Monday, initiating the soft lockdown. Hours after sending out the initial letter, the school sent out another one to parents and families letting them know that there were no credible threats to the school, the students or staff.

“Following today’s investigation, law enforcement determined that neither the threat from today nor the one from Friday was credible,” the letter stated. “They have given us the all-clear and lockdown protocols are now lifted.”

“To clarify, although law enforcementdeterminedthat the threat made on Friday afternoon was not credible, this was the reason for not implementing lockdown procedures at that time,” the letter continued. “Please be assured that Madill Public Schools takes all threats very seriously.”

Law enforcement and school officials both clarified that there was no threat.
