Texoma Fire District:

I sure hope everyone has been enjoying the nice weather this last week. It is so hard to think that it is July, but we still have a couple months of the hot temps coming. But it was nice while it lasted.

I have heard that this is the year of the locust and that means the snakes will be out and after the bug. Well, we found a 20” copperhead in our yard by my flower bed. We did get him, so I guess the rumor is correct as we haven’t seen snakes in a couple of years. So be sure and watch where you step. If you water your yard, it is best to do it in the morning so it is dry by nightfall. The snakes like the cool wet grass if you water at night. Be careful and call 911 if you do get bit.

The fire department has had a slow week, no fires or accidents. But the grass is really drying up so be extra careful if you do a control burn, and be sure to call it into the Sheriff’s office of your address and such. Have water and phone and do not leave it burning.....Be safe!

Our monthly Texoma Fire Board meeting is scheduled for August 1st, 6:30 p.m. at the Texoma Community/Training center. Public is welcome.

Come on down and hear what is going on in your community as for the fire department and auxiliary.

Ladies Auxiliary has nothing planned this month, just going to be getting ready for the Mexican Pile On scheduled for August 31st. So mark those calendars. I will keep you updated on the time and all as we get closer. We do have a committee meeting to get things going. The day will be here before we know it. So be sure to plan to come on down.

This is our one way of supporting our fire department and paying for equipment and repairs when needed. We do thank you for your support! I also want to thank you for donating bottled water to the fire department. Those of you that do it is greatly appreciated with the weather as it is. Wearing bunker gear and fighting a structure fire can really do one in, so water and gator aid is so welcome. We thank you!

If you are interested in joining the volunteer fire department, please give your fire chief, Todd Cissell a call at 580-565-4199. This is your community and we need your help, we need to build up the personnel on the department. So give him a call, you will certainly be welcome and you will find out it is so worth your time to help the community. It is a great group of guys/gals so give us a call.

Until next week, stay safe and cool, and please keep our firefighters in your prayers.
