MC Economic Development Board discusses progress

On Thursday January 20, 2022, the Marshall County Economic Development Board held their monthly meeting to discuss several topics. The Economic Board started with introductions, with each member updating everyone on information.

Jim Dowling, manager at Super C, announced that they now have a deli, alcohol, and Grab N’ Go sections. Dowling has been the store manager for 26 years.

Brent Goodwin stated that they went over the books for the last year, and had to buy another truck and a few containers even though they were 85% more expensive than it was this time last year.

“Everything has gone up too much, and labor has gone up as well, but we needed them. Business has been really good though, we’re up from last year by 40%.” Goodwin said.

The Economic Develop- ment Board then discussed

their goals. Goodwin said they are not too far off track. “We’re not that far off from what we’re doing right now,” Goodwin said. “Our goals are the same as last year, with

just a few minor add-ons.” One goal that is the same as last year is the need for business cards. The board agreed on the cost of one sided card for $55 dollars, plus a

$20 shipping fee.
The board set a new goal to have a get together lunch sponsored by OG&E in order to talk with
manufacturers. A date has not been set, but a date in March is the board’s goal.

Another goal the board decided on was finding film friendly towns. Steven Bratcher with the Oklahoma Department of Commerce said there are multiple com-munities that have had mov-ies filmed in their locations, and there was no reason Marshall County cannot become one of those towns.

“In the last year we have more than 42 statewide communities that serve as

location sites for movies and T.V shows. For example, Reservation Dogs filmed in Tulsa (You can watch it on Hulu), and Killers of the Flower Moon with Leonardo DiCaprio coming out later this year filmed in Tulsa as well,” Bratcher said.

The Board talked about taking pictures and applying and going through the certi-fication process to become a film friendly town.

The next thing discussed was the building of a new day care. The board talked

about costs, salaries, and potential locations. The board planned to reconvene to further discuss a location for the day care.

The next Economic De-velopment Authority Board Meeting will be held on March 11, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.
