Mayor’s Minute

Editor’s note: Given the sweep of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Madil Record wanted to give the city mayors an opportunity to address their residents.

Madill Mayor Travis Williams

With the spread of COVID-19 throughout Oklahoma, as Mayor of the City of Madill, I would like to remind each one of you to stay safe and follow the guidelines of the CDC along with the executive orders given by Governor Stitt.

People who are 65 or older (or have a compromised immune system) need to stay at home. Also, social distancing should be practiced when having to be in public.

This means, avoid groups of 10 or more people and keep a safe distance of 6 feet when interacting with others.

Watch for the three main symptoms of COVID-19: fever, cough, and shortness of breath. If you exhibit these symptoms, you should contact your medical provider and self-quarantine.

The City of Madill is doing all that it can to keep the public and the city employees healthy. While the Madill Fitness Center and the Public Library are temporarily closed, Madill Public Works and Madill City Hall are currently still open (with limited access to the public) to continue to serve the needs of every citizen.

If you need to reach the city offices, please start by calling 795-5586.

Furthermore, I would like to ask each person to pray for our community and continue to support our local businesses. During this time, individuals and families are not the only ones suffering…our businesses are suffering, too.

For example, you can take advantage of drive-thru and/or curbside services at many of the restaurants and still stay safe. A lot of the necessary businesses have special hours for senior citizens to keep them safe.

Remember, we will get through this TOGETHER!

Kingston Mayor Robbie Kendrick

In a phone interview, Kendrick wanted to allay the residents’ fears by letting them know that the town of Kingston is doing everything they can to keep everybody safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Town officials and town hall staff are following guidlines set out by the CDC to assist in staying healthy. They are also following the executive order given by Governor Kevin Stitt.

Unfortunately, it means town hall is currently closed for outside traffic.

This does not mean that the office is completely closed for business.

Town staff can still be reahed by calling (580) 564-3750 or emailing clerk@townofkingston.com.

Residents can still pay their water bills by either dropping off or mailing a money order in, or setting up an online bank draft.
