A Madill man was arrested for multiple charges after an incident on June 5, 2022. At approximately 8:00 p.m., the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence on Durwood Road in reference to a disturbance involving Nicholas Butler.

The reporting party alleged that Butler, a 34-yearold male from Madill, was under the influence of Methamphetamines and was attempting to fight people while holding a large knife. The reporting party also informed officers that there were children in the residence.

Once on scene, witnesses alleged that Butler left for a moment and then returned with a knife and a wrench. They also informed officers that a few minutes prior to the officers’ arrival, Butler retreated to a resident just a few feet from the residence where the incident allegedly took place.

Deputies went to the residence where Butler was holed up and began giving verbal commands for the suspect to exit the residence and go outside. However, the commands went unanswered, Butler refused to cooperate with officers.

During the investigation and alleged standoff, deputies learned of a gun safe inside the residence where Butler was hunkered down. Deputies immediately set up a perimeter around the residence to keep every safe.

The deputies then notified Marshall County Sheriff Donald Yow and Undersheriff John Bridgeman. While in route to the scene, Yow instructed Bridgeman to contact the Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police Tactical Team. Yow then requested assistance from the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office for assistance with securing the roads north and south of the residence.

While waiting for the tactical team, and after more investigating, deputies learned of an alleged Domestic Violence incident that occurred earlier in the day by Butler.

The deputies, along with the Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department, secured a perimeter around the residence for the tactical team. Minutes before the tactical team was set to breach the residence, Butler’s stepfather was able to get Bridgeman in contact with the suspect.

Bridgeman was able to talk Butler down, and the suspect exited the residence. He was taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Detention Center.

Butler is facing possible charges of Kidnapping, Domestic Abuse/Assault and Battery, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, and Assault.
