On Oct 13, the Madill City Council proceeded with their monthly council meeting. The first order of business was the agreement between Madill and Marshall County jail to help them house inmates as Madill does not have its own jail system at this time. They were identifying their relationship with the county jail as they do not have one. They mentioned a thank you card of sorts and recognition.

Next, the council discussed a proposal for a city owned facility to be turned into a bowling alley. Madill City Manager James Fullingim said the bowling alley would be a positive addition. The lease agreement stood as is except for some needed assistance from the city. Also, they agreed to not charge rent and help with utilities for a short time during construction. The only conditions on the lease is rent will be starting one month after opening as well as business insurance starting before opening day. Ron Robertson, the owner of the lease, expects the job to be completed by spring of 2021.

Next on the agenda was the Department of Environmental Quality who will be doing an assessment of the sanitary conditions around the city of Madill, with the homeowners fixing minor issues and the public works working on major problems.

One of the important issues addressed was the damage done by the April 22, 2020 tornado that touched down on Smiley Road. The damages are still in the process of being cleared up such as The Old Madill Cemetery near the steel plant by Wal-Mart. While the grounds are still being kept landscaped, there is still much to do to restore the old cemetery to a more restful place.

Another problem on Smiley Road. is the incomplete portion that has been damaging vehicles. A plan is in place to ensure the road damages are assessed and repaired for future use. Road work is also being planned and scheduled for the seventh to twelfth street back roads.

The ditches were another issue brought up in the meeting as maintenance issues have caused them to not drain the water fast enough when it rains and cause flooding. A plan is in place to remedy this issue.

Plans are also in the works to change Watkins field in Madill to a soccer field in the future.

The public works portion of the meeting was unchanged save for the upcoming sanitary inspections that are scheduled for the future. The following was covered:

• Action of consent agenda passed

• Financial report passed
