Library Greeting: A little light reading

First, we have Mystic Moons of McCurtain County by local author Joanna Duncan. A romantic suspense set in the Ouachita Mountains of rural southeastern Oklahoma’s Choctaw Nation and steeped in Native American legend, Mystic Moons of Mc-Curtain County is an inspirational tale of love and loss.

Two young couples repeat mock marital vows in a carnival wedding booth, but as they grow up and apart, little in life turns out as they expect. Years later, the companions reunite at Thanksgiving, but a river floods, trapping them in the mountains, and by the time the holiday meal is served, someone will be missing at the table. Though the friends shared an idyllic childhood growing up, the ties that bind their once tight knit relationships are tested in a tender love story for the ages that will first wound, then warm the heart.

Chet Phillips never imagines that a promise he makes to his dying grandfather will invite danger home. The young rancher has just lost his last blood relative, unless he counts his estranged sister Chaya, a Marine sniper who is missing in action and presumed dead. Accompanied by a mysterious investigator with questionable motives, Chet sets out in search of his sister and eventually locates her at a shelter where she is hiding out from a ruthless gang of drug traffickers. Chet brings Chaya back to the family’s wild mustang refuge where they gather with old friends, and after a betrayal of someone close, a fierce battle for survival ensues. Once the unimaginable happens, Chet is not looking for love, but he finds his soul mate when he least expects it, right beside him where she has been all along.
