The Kingston Order of the Eastern Star is currently searching for a new meeting space. The Chapter began as a dream of Dr. Rob Morris.
Dr. Morris, a Master Mason, and his wife Charlotte, worked on an idea that female relatives of Master Masons should share, in a measure, the benefits from the knowledge of their great fraternal Order. In 1866, Dr. Morris transferred to Robert Macoy all the authority he had assumed in planning the Order of the Eastern Star. Under his guidance, the Supreme Grand Chapter was organized. In 1867 and 1868 was the beginning of the organization of Chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star, based on a belief in God, Charity and Love.
On September 23, 1947, a petition was presented to the Grand Chapter of Oklahoma by the sisters and brothers: Ruth French, Willa Dean Ellis, Johnnie Coble, Indiola Flynt, Pauline Compton, Ben T. French, Fred Compton, and several other men and women to establish a Chapter in Kingston. The Grand Chapter of Oklahoma appointed Alice Buch, Worthy Matron and S. T. Corder, WorthyPatron. Lastyearthe Chapter celebrated our 75th anniversary in Kingston.
Althoughthemembersare aging, the group continues the love for the community and its people. The members enjoy and take such pride in being able to provide Christmaspresentsforneedy children, presenting scholarships to the seniors and participating in community events.
The Chapter is currently meeting in the old Masonic Lodge on Main Street, the Grand Lodge has been gracious in allowing us to continue meeting there. However, the Chapter is now in search of a new place to meet. The Chapter meets on the 4th Monday of each month and require a good size room, with a storage closet and hopefully a kitchen in order to continue to have fundraisers.
