The fourth of July is typically a time for celebration and an opportunity to commemorate America’s independence with fireworks. Some people watch the fireworks, while many people prefer to light the fireworks themselves.

Along with the action of lighting the fireworks comes great responsibility. The downfall is no matter how careful a person can be, they still wind up getting injured. This could be due to a faulty firework, or just bad luck.

Kingston resident Jared Davis just happened to be on the receiving end of either a faulty firework or just bad luck. While celebrating Independence Day on July 2, Davis’ mom and family were faced with something no parent wants to ever face.

Kacey Davis, Jared’s mom, said everything happened so fast, it was difficult to react.

“Our night went from popping champagne on the balcony watching the beautiful fireworks to complete and utter terror late yesterday evening and every parent’s nightmare,” Kacey posted on Facebook. “A mortar blew up as he [Jared] was lighting it and the night became a complete flashing whirlwind of lights, pain, and fear but a whole lot more strength and faith.”

Jared had to have surgery and is more than likely facing more. Kacey said the EMTs and Enos/Cardinal Fire Departments were amazing.

“Our outstanding volunteer EMS/Firefighters were loving on him and praying over him keeping all involved calm and at peace he knew most of them and I know that gave him so much comfort to have them so in control of the situation,” Kacey said. “I know if definitely did for me.”

Kacey said that the first responders are still calling to check on Jared and praying over him.

Jared is employed at Oklahoma Steel & Wire, but the accident will keep him out of work for some time. There is a GoFundMe fundraiser circulating around to assist the Davis family with medical bills and anything else that might arise from the accident. There was also a meal train started to feed the Davis family, so they can focus on helping Jared heal. It can be found at https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/l6zn06.

Kacey said not only were the EMTs and firefighters amazing, she is also humbled by the outpouring of assistance from the community. Kacey also said that the fire department is a volunteerbased operation, and they could also use donations, as well.
