Kingston v Sulphur

Was it the snow days forcing missed practice? For whatever reason, the Lady Redskins let one slip through their fingers against the Lady Bulldogs on February 3. The Lady Redskins took Sulphur by thirteen points in December. However, that was then. Sulphur won 52 to 48.

In the first quarter, everyone got off to a pretty good start. The pace was good, and the ball was moving well on the offensive end. Kamry Bohannon and Ethel Stewart each had buckets. Olivia Quapaw had a long, high, arching three pointer. However, Jaci Herndon came in and quickly had a three and a two-point bucket. That proved to be the difference as the Lady Redskins were up 12 to seven at the buzzer.

For some odd reason, the Lady Bulldogs did not appear to be interested in getting the ball inside. They just kept shooting three pointers. Finally, it paid off as they hit four in the quarter. Bohannon hit one for the Lady Redskins. Quapaw hit two more floaters in the lane.

Emily Bellettini was getting the ball down low, but it was rough going. After missing her two attempts in the first quarter, she spent most of the second at thefreethrowline.Shemanaged 3 of 6. Now, the Lady Bulldogs had the lead. The score at the half was 28 to 22, advantage Sulphur.

In the third, Quapaw fought to keep it close. She had another three pointer and added two field goals, as well. Bohannon had another bucket. Bellettini hit her stride from the free throw line. She was 4 of 4. She also hit her first field goal.

Herndon got to the line and was 2 of 2. The Lady Redskins could not cut into the lead and they trailed by five going into the fourth quarter, 44 to 39.

In the fourth, the Lady Bulldogs left the door wide open by missing the front end of three, 1 and 1 chances from the line. The Lady Redskins let them off the hook by not taking advantage of them. In fact, with the Lady Redskins in a must-foul situation, the Lady Bulldogs only converted 2 of 7. Herndon did just as she did in the first quarter. A three pointer and a two-point field goal. Bellettini and Laney French each had a bucket. The Lady Redskins lost by four, 52 to 48.

Box score: Quapaw lead the team with 14 points. Herndon had 12 and Bellettini 11. Bohannon had seven, French and Stewart each had two.

Kingston v Tishomingo

The Lady Redskins took on the Tishomingo Lady Indians. Coming off a loss to Sulphur, the Lady Redskins were anxious to get back on the court. No Homecoming jitters for these girls. This one was decided early, Lady Redskins won 65 to 27.

In the first quarter, the game was tied at five all. Before the Indians could get a timeout, it was 14 to five. Tishomingo needed another at the 3:29 point and trailed 19 to five. The Lady Redskins turned up the heat with steal after steal. Then, turned them into layup after layup.

Even the end of the quarter could not stop the run. French had two layups and a three pointer. Bellettini had a three and was 2 of 2 from the line. The streak went to 36 before the Indians were able to score. Quapaw was 2 of 2 from the line. Bohannon had a bucket and a free throw. The score crept to 48 to 13.

In the third quarter, Quapaw had four, Bohannon had two,EthelStewarttwo,French four and Jaci Herndon had three. The score going to the fourth was 63 to 18 with the Lady Redskins in the lead.

The fourth started with Emily Backenstoes, Kandice Felton, Maddi Willis, Brooklyn Claborn and Tabitha Arnold. Later, they were joined by Kailee Grigg and Kelsie Cook. Backenstoes had the only field goal. The final score was 65 to 27.

Box score: French led the team with 20 points. Bohannon had 14 points and Bellettini with 13.. Quapaw had 11. That’s four starters with double figures. Next was Herndon who had three. Stewart and Backanstoes with two points each.

The steal count was off the charts this afternoon. French was on the scoring end of a lot of these turnovers. She, Quapaw, and Herndon were swarming the ball handlers. When they pulled up to make a pass, Bohannon was there to snag it out of the air. If the Lady Indians were able to get a shot off, Bellettini had the rebound and it was off to the races.
