Southern Oklahoma is fortunate to have a venue that not only has community ties dating back to circa 1830 but is grand enough to pull in some fantastic talent. Ole Reds in Tishomingo has a super star stage in the Doghouse that was a landing point for Emily Rhyne. She is a local musician who opened for Fleetwood X, a Fleetwood Mac tribute band on Saturday February 11, 2023.
Rhyne, a third-generation musician from Ada, opened the show rocked the house. Rhyne seemed to bring her best to the show and it was obvious that she performs at Ole Red regularly as she sang as if she was right at home. Rhyne performed some real Oklahoma favorites including songs from Don Williams and Toby Keith. She even sand one of Blake Shelton’s.
Dinner was served was included with the show and Ole Reds did a great job on the BBQ. The show was just getting hot and then Fleetwood X lit up the stage. Many times, tribute bands sound like the original and many times tribute bands look like the original. However, in the case of Fleetwood X, they had both.
Any true fan of Fleetwood Mac would have to take a double look and have a keen ear to tell a difference. Fleetwood X told where they came from and how they got to where they are. Each band member had a strong church related music background.
The band said that it was a no brainer to sing Fleetwood Mac songs, they juse “we simply had to”. Lori Carlyle plays Stevie Nicks and is madeforthepartbothvocally and in a strong resemblance. Carlyle’s brother Lance List who plays the role of Lindsey Buckingham is also a natural and he can really rip the guitar.
List modestly spoke of his experience and talked about his high school days in Amarillo, Texas, he went on his high school band played in several different churches.
“Our band played hard rock n roll right in the churches but when you think about it all music is a talent given by God, so I guess it’s ok.”
It seems the natural harmony of brother and sister really brings the show to a realistic level just as it was back in the day for Fleetwood Mac. Andy Long was a hardhitting guitarist as well and heisreferredtoasTheX-man by the other band members.
Tom Thornton is Mick Fleetwood in the band and plays the drums like magic. Randy Mishler assumed the role of John Mcvie and his guitar was smoking the entire time. Dalene Richelle, or to the band Christine Mcvie, plays keyboard. She seemed to be a prefect fir for the band, and they knew when she auditioned that the part was meant for her.
“Richelle had a natural earforharmony,”Carlyleand List said. They added that such a talent is extremely rare not to mention she really knows her way around the keyboard.
The band refers to each band member by their Fleetwood Mac names, not their birth names. The band also dressed the part, and each seemed to have thoroughly studied the original band members.
