Danny  Cryer is running as the Independent candidate for the Sheriff race. He is the former Marshall County Sheriff. He will face the winner oftheRepublicanPrmary race in November.

Here are his answers to the questions asked by The Madill Record.

What platform or issues will you be running on?

The platform that I am running on is very simple: I want to reduce the current bureaucracy in our sheriff's office and restore it to an office of public service. By providingequal, transparent, and honest law enforcement services to all communities in Marshall County, we can restore the public trust once held by our Sheriff’s Office. I will focus on a number of crimeswithaheavyemphasis on property crimes and drug offenses while maintaining focus on the safety of our communities and citizens.

Why should MC residents vote for you?

Marshall County residents should vote for me because I have the necessary requirements to excel as a law enforcement leader for our county. I have over 20 years of experience working for a Sheriff’s Office and have achieved the highest certification recognized in Oklahoma Law (advanced certification), I have a degree in police science from OSU, and have developed relationships with many high-level law enforcement officials across the state who are willing to assist me with any needs that may arise. I have shown in the past that I am a sheriff of the people and have a true desire to help those in need. Voting for me ensures that everyone in Marshall County gets the highest quality of law enforcement available without the sacrifice of personalized service.

What is the vision for the future of Marshall County?

My vision for the future of Marshall County is to have a thriving county, while maintaining safe communities for our residents and visitors to enjoy, live and flourish. I hope to see a county that has a thriving economy, while avoiding crime and other issues associated with an increasing population. I plan on working with community and economic leaders to address issues such as the homeless population that is increasing in our county, the stray animal issues that remain constant problem in our communities, and holding criminals accountable for their acts, while maintaining compassion for victims of crimes.FouryearsfromnowI hope to live in a county where our law enforcement can be trusted, approachable, and are seen as a positive addition to each community.

What are your short term goals?

My short-term goals for the Sheriff’s office are to restore equality in Marshall County law enforcement by insuring that people in every community will have consistent and reliable service. I will work to rebuild the bonds with the city, tribal and state agencies that support Marshall County to ensure that the citizens have the best possible service from its Sheriff’s Office. In short, I want to rebuild the public trust of the office by re-installing transparency, equality, trust, and accountability to our sheriff’s office.

How do you plan to combat the criminal activity that comes with the black-market demand for legal medical marijuana in Oklahoma?

To combat the criminal activity associated with the black-market demand for medical marijuana in Oklahoma, the Sheriff’s Office must be able to partner with such agencies as OMMA, OBNDD, and the FDA’s Cannabis Product Committee, which could assist in building cross-agency strategies for combatting this issue. Further by working closely with the Office of the District Attorney we can ensure that there is an understanding that the Sheriff’s Office would have a no-tolerance policy as it pertains to these and other drug crimes in this jurisdiction.

Are you from Marshall County and do you currently live in Marshall County?

I currently live in and am a lifelong resident of Marshall County and have been an active member of the communities of this area my entire life. Due to my past years of working with the Sheriff’s Office in Marshall County I have developed relationships in every community throughout our county and because of those long-standing relationships, understand each community has a unique set of issues and demands. If elected, I will nurture and maintain relationships with these communities by attending area projects and community fire meetings to stay in touch with each community so when issues arise the Sheriff’s Office will be prepared to deal with each issue in a manner that will best benefit the community.
