Wildcats’ season ends with road loss to Tecumseh

A win to close the regular season wasn’t meant to be for the Madill Wildcats as they fell 56-22 to the Tecumseh Savages on the evening of Nov. 8.

The hosts had 11 different runners combine for 43 carries and 392 yards. The group scored eight touchdowns on the ground.

Madill was looking for another road win but fell behind early as Tecumseh scored on their first drive.

Tecumseh’s Kane Ainsworth ran the ball 18 yards for the game’s first touchdown. A kick by Kevin Dodd is good gave the hosts an early 7-0 lead.

A little over three minutes later, the Savages struck again. This time it was Jalen Walker with an 18-yard score of his own. Dodd’s kick made it 14-0.

Then, it was Jalen Walker’s turn. Walker scored his first touchdown of the night from 17 yards out with 2:32 to go in the first quarter. Dodd’s kick put Tecumseh up 21-0.

The Wildcats got on the board two seconds later as sophomore quarterback Kendall Robertson completed a 73-yard pass to senior running back Mateo Fajardo. Senior fullback John Venable added a two-point conversion to cut the deficit to 21-8.

The hosts immediately pushed back as the first quarter came to a close. They completed their drive with a 3-yard touchdown run by Walker to open the second quarter. Their lead increased to 28-8 following a successful kick by Dodd.

Tecumseh added another touchdown 90 seconds later behind a 15-yard run by Dylan Graham runs. The kick by Dodd was good pushing the Savages’ lead to 35-8 .

The Savages scored on a Jamal Fair 3-yard run with 7:42 left in the second quarter. Dodd added the extra point to make it 42-8.

Dylan Graham would get one more score Tecumseh before halftime. Graham ran the ball 63 yards for a score with 3:01 to in the second quarter. The margin at halftime was Tecumseh 49, Madill 8.

Neither side would score in the third quarter.

Madill was able to outscore Tecumseh 14-7 in the fourth quarter.

First, Kendall Robertson took the ball 31 yards for a touchdown with 6:34 to go. Fajardo added an extra point kick to make it 49-15 in favor of the hosts.

Fajardo would get his second touchdown of the night on an 87-yard kickoff return in the game’s final moments. He would come back out to add an extra point kick.

The Madill touchdowns booked another by Tecumseh’s Lucky Longhom earlier in the quarter.

The Wildcats finished their season with an overall record of 3-7. Madill went 2-5 in district games. Meanwhile, Tecumseh’s overall record was 7-3 and its district record was 5-2.
