After running into a proverbial buzz saw a week ago in a 61-0 loss at Class 4A third-ranked Tuttle, the Madill Wildcats return home for a two-game homestand with a old time rival in Ardmore.
The Wildcats and Tigers will however be meeting for just the first time on the gridiron since 1954 when Ardmore was a 26-6 victor.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Coach John Heavner’s squad will be looking to put last week’s defeat in its rear view mirror quickly, managing just 28 total yards against a powerful Tiger unit that madethemostofits308yards offensively while capitalizing on turnovers, special teams and short fields.
“Tuttle is a very good football team and they will have a chance to win every game they play through December,” Heavner commented. “They are the total package, but I am proud of the way our guys came out and competed. Itgotawayfromusearlyobviously but we didn’t have any negative penalties that had been hurting us in previous games, keptourheadsupand battled.”
Ardmore enters this week’s contest with a 3-2 record, but one of those losses was a 48-7 thumping at the hands of Tuttle as well.
The Tigers are very big up front, which could present problems, and are coming off a 35-12 triumph over winless Chickasha, which Madill faces next week.
“It’s a local rivalry that people around here are excited to see,” Heavner added. “It’s been a while since they played in varsity football so it should be a very fun game. Ardmore is very well coached and will be a challenge up front offensively on the line with what they do and the size they present.
“We are looking forward to the matchup. We get to come backhomeandtrytogetsome momentum going over the next two weeks.”
