LocalareaKingstonsenior was named Texoma Chevy Dealers A+ Athlete. Each Friday throughout the school year on the KXII television midday newscast, they feature a Texoma area student that excels not only in athletics but also in the classroom. This week, it was Kingston’s very own Brycen Ward.

Ward is a hard-working student according to his teachers and coaches. The ACT prep teacher Mindi Weeks said he is always willing to ask questions and learn more.

Ward is a National Hispanic Recognition Scholar and ranks at the top of his class with a 4.30 GPA. Ward is an academic state champion with a score of a 32 on the ACT. Ward is also a member of the National Honor Society and has acceptance in the Honors College at Oklahoma State University.

Ward has set multiple school records. He set records in the 800 meter, the 1600 meter, the 3200 meter and the 5000 meter. He also won state in the 800-meter dash and the 4x800 meter relay. He may call the sport challenging, but his coaches said he faces everything head on.

“Running is such a mentally challenging sport,’’ said Ward.

“When he comes in, there is no doubt he is there to improve,” Coach McGowen said. “Just the way he works and motivates himself to work makes the whole team better.”

This spring, Ward can be seen on the track working and training for his final track season as a high school athlete.
