Two Madill seniors sign with Murray State college

Madill High School had a productive week as two of their high school seniors had their signing day for college athletics. Madill High School held the signing day for Mc-Gahey and Stumblingbear on Wednesday, May 3, and Thursday, May 4.Holden McGahey and Sadie Stumblingbear will both continue their academic and athletic careers at Murray State College (MSC).

McGahey will saddle up and join the rodeo team as a bull rider for the Aggies. He said he knows rodeo like the back of his hand. He started working as a grand mutton buster at the young age of five. He started riding steer at ten years old and said that’s where he fell in love with the sport.

McGahey is heavily involved intheFFAprogramat Madill and has a lot to show for it. One great moment he had in this program was being crowned Grand Champion for Market Swine at the Choctaw Nation Livestock Show. McGahey also won the competition for best reserve weather goat at Madill’s livestock show this year.

McGahey also spent a lot of his time in athletics. He competed on the football, powerlifting, and track teams. He excelled on the football field playing running back for the Wildcats. He received an honorable mention award in the 4A District Conference for football this past season. Another accomplishment he had as an athlete was being a state qualifier in track last year as a pole vaulter.

As far as the future goes, McGaheysaidhealreadyhas planned his life out.

“I’m just going to finish my associate’s degree and become a firefighter after those two years,” he said.

McGahey said he feels good about his opportunity with Murray State College and looks forward to his time there.

Stumblingbear will also kick off her career at Murray State College because she signed to compete on their soccer team. She has played soccersinceshewasfiveyears old and said she is ecstatic for the opportunity.

“It feels amazing, exciting, and scary all at the same time,” said Stumblingbear.

Stumblingbear was an exceptional scorer for the soccer team. One of her most significantachievementswas scoring five points in a single game against Atoka in 2022. She has received the MVP award on the Madill Soccer team for two years and said she is looking to take home theawardforathirdtimethis year. Another accomplishment she had was helping Madill’s Cross Country team achieve second place at the State Cross Country meet during her freshman year.

While playing soccer for MSC, Stumblingbear said she plans on getting her associate's degree in Business. She said she plans on using the business degree to renovate houses and make a profit off of her work.

Stumblingbear noted that she is grateful for the opportunity that she has with MSC. She also said she loves the environment that is at MSC and how close she will be to her family. Stumblingbear said that two of the most important life lessons she has learned are to always work hard and do whatever is best for the individual.
