When somebody uses the term “runs in the family,” they are typically referring to a certain trait that passes down throughout generations. Some families have the genetic trait of ice blue eyes or brown hair that gets passed down. With the Stovall family,
With the Stovall family, running runs in the family. Ethan Stovall, a junior at Oklahoma Christian School is on the school track team. He made school history at the 2021 OSSAA Track & Field Championships on May 7 and May 8, 2021.
He took first place for Class 3A in the 3200-meter and 1600-meter run and was the first leg of the winning four-man team in the 4 x 800-meter relay. Not only was it a win for Stovall, but also the first track championship win in the school’s history.
Ethan’s father, Brent Stovall, and his grandfather Darrell Stovall were both runners. Brent, who is a long-distance running coach at OCS, may not have started running till after high school, but he dove into the sport headfirst. Brent qualified for the Boston Marathon on three separate occasions, and he has also competed in Iron Man and Triathlons.
Ethan may be a student at OCS, but his roots run deep in Kingston. Like his father Brent, both of Ethan’s uncles, Shawn and Shane are Kingston alum, as well.
The Stovall family were doubly proud at the championship. Not only did their son/grandson/newphew win and help land the first ever championship win for his school, but their alma mater also placed at the state meet. The Kingston boys’ track team were runners up for the state track meet, only lacking 11 points from the winners.
The friendly rival of schools did not just occur in track. In an ironic twist this weekend, OCS beat Kingston in the state track meet, but Kingston beat OCS at the baseball regionals to advance to state.
