Coach Taylor Wiebener and his team found themselves in a matchup with the # 4 in Class 3A - Oklohama Christian School. It was a hard-fought battle, but OCS proved to be too much. Redskins lost this one 55 to 42.
This game featured 6’7” centers on both teams, both sophomores. Our guy, Reid Cason was giving away several pounds and a lot of muscle. By the end of the game, everyone on the team had a go at him and he still managed 28 points.
In the first, the Redskins found themselves unable to get anything going on the inside. Dakota Wiebener did what he does best and hit two three-pointers. Brady Brister had a field goal, and that was it. The score after one had the Redskins trailingby 5,13 to 8.
Second quarter had Braden Matchen finding his shot. He had two field goals and was 2 of 2 from the line. Wiebener again hit the threepointer and had a free throw. Jahiem Nash played lots of minutes to slow down the big man and had a bucket. Still, the Redskins were down 7, 27 to 20 at the half.
In the third quarter, Nash found himself alone outside the arc and no one on him. So, he easily knocked down a nice three-pointer. Cason had a bucket. Matchen was working hard inside. He had a field goal and was 4 of 5 from the line. Cole Morgan was 2 of 2 from the line. The lead was cut to four, 37 to 33.
With the game now in reach, it was time to make a run at it. The Redskins just could not get over the hump. A nine-point scoring effort was not near enough. Morgan playing hard all night, got a bucket and was 2 of 3 from the line. Matchen again had a bucket. Tucker Rumer hit a three. OCS pulled away to a 55 to 42 final score.
Box score: Matchen lead the team with 14, followed by Wiebener with 10. Morgan had six followed by Nash with five. Rumer had three and Brister had two. As a team from the line, 11 of16 for 69 %.
