It was tough sledding for the Kingston basketball teams as they dropped three of four contests at the Northeastern Oklahoma State Festival in Tahlequah last weekend.
The fifth-ranked Lady Redskins ran into a pair of Top 10 foes as they fell to numbertwoSequoyahTahlequah (56-45) and eighth-rated Keys (42-35) to even their record at 4-4 on the season.
Kingston’s boys meanwhile came up on the short end of a 64-56 verdict to 15th ranked Sequoyah before bouncing back to topple Keys (56-27) in the finale.
Girls
The Lady Redskins stood toe-to-toe with second rated Sequoyah in a high scoring first period that saw the Lady Indians claim an 18-16 advantage the frame as Cassidy Walker and Avery Ludrick combined for 13 points.
ThatscoringduoforKingston was held scoreless in the second stanza as Sequoyah went on a 19-6 flurry to take a 37-22 halftime edge. The Lady Redskins rallied with a 14-4 third period to close to within five but that was as close as it got.
Walker and Ludrick tallied 14 points apiece to lead the Kingston scoring charge. Destry Davis pitched in seven,DextryBowermanhad four while Taylie Wiebener and Dilynn Weeks notched three apiece.
In the Keys showdown, it was a 6-6 deadlock through one quarter when the Lady Cougars took command by outpointing the Lady Redskins 14-6 in the second frame. Kingston posted 10-9 and 14-13 scoring edges in the final two periods but it was not enough to overcome the halftime deficit.
Walker was the offensive catalyst with 12 points with Wiebener adding nine via a trio of three pointers. Davis contributed six with Bowerman and Ludrick tossing in four each.
Boys
Junior Jack Hinsley poured in a whopping 30 points but the Redskins’ upset bid against Sequoyah fell just short.
A slow first period dug Kingston a hole which it could never fully recover from despite playing even or outscoring the Indians each of the final three stanzas. It was a 21-7 Sequoyah advantage through one period but that margin narrowed to 34-21 at halftime and 48-40 through three quarters as Hinsley pumped in 18 of his points following intermission.
Brock Rumer posted nine points,HaydenSeeneyadded six, Bowen McAdams and Parks Ratzlaff both scored three, Reid Patterson and Blane Henry notched two each with one from Hudson Everhart.
Kingstonjumpedoutearly against Keys and never took its foot off the throttle to steadily pull away for the dominant victory.
TheRedskinswereinfront 15-6 through one quarter, 25-11 at halftime and 33-18 at the end of three periods before outscoring the Cougars by a whopping 23-6 cushion in the fourth.
Rumer led three Redskins in double figures with 14 points as Hinsley had 13 and Seeney scored 11. Patterson notched all seven of his points in the fourth period while Ratzlaff posted five and McAdams,HenryandJaylen Wilson each tallied two..
