Kingston girls rode a huge first quarter while the boys capitalized in a big fourth to notch an impressive sweep over perennial power Idabel last week.
The Lady Redskins raced to an 11-point lead after one period and were able to hold the defending state champs at bay the rest of the way for a 48-40 decision.
CoachBobbyMcAdoo’sboys pulled off the upset of Class 4A’s eighth-ranked squad by rallying from four points down in the final frame for a 53-50 victory.
Girls
The Lady Redskins raced out the gate, getting six points on a pair of early treys by Avery Ludrick, to claim a 17-6 cushion through one period.
Cassidy Walker carried most of the scoring load for Kingston in the second frame, notching seven of the team’s eight points as they maintained that double figure advantage to the half.
Idabel came out smoking in the third quarter, clipping the lead to single digits but Taylie Wiebener countered with a trio of three pointers in the frame that kept the hosts in front down the stretch.
Walker tallied 15 points to pace the scoring charge that included nine from Wiebener along with Jaci Herndon’s eight as well as seven by Ludrick.JoleyHeydonchecked in with four and Coby Davis had three points.
Boys
Kingston had all the right ingredients for the upset as they cashed in 13 of 14 free throws and added a hosts of three pointers spurred by Lander Burkhalter and Hayden Seeney.
Burkhalter canned three first half treys and Blane Henry posted all eight of his points prior to intermission, staking the Redskins to a 2726 edge.
Despite a strong sevenpoint effort by Brock Rumer in the third quarter, Idabel responded with its highest scoring frame to carry a 43-39 lead to the fourth.
That’s when the Redskins turned up the defense, yielding only seven points over the final eight minutes, and rode a balanced scoring performance to a decisive 14-7 advantage.
Rumer fueled three double figure scorers with 14 points while Burkhalter and Hayden Seeney each connected for three treys en route to 11 points apiece.
Henryhadeight,SamWalker scored four, Ewan Weaver had three with Reid Patterson also tallying two points.
