Madill’s Valeria Calderon will run in the cross country Meet of Champions at 9 a.m. Saturday, November 9 at Carl Albert High School in Midwest City.

Calderon finished fourth in the Class 4A state meet in Shawnee Oct. 26. The Lady ‘Cats were runners up as a team.

It was Madill head coach Cale Eidson’s first female cross country runner to achieve All-State status in his five seasons at MHS.

Madill has steadily improved in his tenure. Madill was fifth at state as a team in boys and girls cross country. In 2019, the Lady Wildcats were second and the boys earned third overall as a unit.

In a recent interview with The Madill Record, Eidson said Caleron is part of a team that has exceeded expectations all year.

Calderon’s time at the Class 4A state meet was 12:24.7.

Later in the same interview, Eidson said both Calderon and her teammate Isabel Sanchez would continue training for two more weeks.

“Valeria has qualified for that and Isabel is an alternate,” he said. “The wild card is because not everyone who qualified goes since it is a volunteer event after the season is over.”

Eidson said the additional both girls have been training with teammates on the cross country team since June.
