The Madill Wildcats boys’ soccer team’s season came to an end when the Clinton Red Tornadoes beat them 2-0 on May 5. The Red Tornadoes were last year’s State Champions. Madill won the district championship and made it to the quarterfinals round of the playoffs for three straight years. The Wildcats may have lost, but they have nothing to be sad about since they had a great season.
The Wildcats posted a 15-5 record in the regular season and won the first playoff matchup against Woodward. They had huge wins this season like their first game of the season against Atoka when they won 9-0. They had eight total games where they scored 6 points or more against other opponents. The offense was dominant, but so was the defense. The team had five games where their opponents scored 0 points against Madill.
Jose Cortes, the Madill boys’ soccer head coach, said he was very proud of his team and believes the team will have great success next season and wants to make it farther into the playoffs.
“I am very proud of my team and how we became district champions,” Cortes said. “We haven’t been able to do that for quite some time.”
The team does have six seniors and one other student leaving the team, but Cortes is confident his team will perform excellent next season.
