The Madill High School Soccer teams hosted the Newcastle Racers on April 6, 2021. Even though the girls lost 1-0, Head Coach Jose Cortes said they played well.
“It was one of the best games the girls played this year,” Cortes said. “We had possession for the majority of the game creating at least 10 chances on goal.”
Mya Ramirez and Samantha Dominguez each had two shots on goal. Samara Sanchez had one shot on goal. “
Our defense was very good limiting Newcastle to just a few chances,” said Cortes.
Jimena Guevara had 2 saves. Newcastle scored with 1:15 left in regulation.
The boys’ soccer team played after the girls and came home with a win. They won 3-0. Cortes said the boys brought their A game.
“The boys played a great game keeping possession at least 60% of the game,” Cortes said.
Sergio Hernandez had two shots and scored one goal. Ezequiel Fuentes and Dilan Ortiz each had two shots. Francisco Perez had four shots and one goal. Diego Ibarra had one shot. Rodrigo Villegas had two shots and one goal. Rey Gómez had one shot and Javier Gomez had one assist.
Cortes said this win means quite a bit since they were up against such a formidable opponent.
“Newcastle is a well-coached team that tested our defense and our goalkeeper several times,” said Cortes. “Our defense was solid and our goalkeeper Miguel Fajardo made a couple of saves.”
Madill will host Bristow for senior night on April 16.
