Madill has two win, two loss record for the weekend

Saturday, January 31, Madill hosted the Atoka Wampuscats. The ladies started the game off with a bang. Schneider scored two points with seconds shaved off the first quarter. Then, the Lady Wampuscats swished a three– pointer. Ximena Gomez shot for three points for the Lady Wildcats. Mendez and Stumblingbear scored back-to-back two pointers. Atoka scored three more points. With 2:09 left in the quarter, Weiberg made two points. Lady Wampuscats replied with five more points, and then Junior Lydia Landgraf scoring two for the Lady Wildcats. Madill led 13 to 11 after the first quarter.

The second quarter started with Atoka swishing a threepointer. But Madill’s Weiberg returned with a three–pointer of her own. Schneider made two points, followed by Stumblingbear with two points. The Lady Wampuscats shot for another three points. Stumblingbear returned for two points. Atoka made five unanswered points to tie the game 22 all. Schneider then made three points, a two–point jump shot then drawing a foul. Atoka was fouled and made one free throw. The game was tied at 25 going to halftime.

Weiberg was fouled to open the third quarter where she made both free throws. The Lady Wildcats worked as a team where Mendez shot for two, followed by Schneider being fouled for two free throws then added another two points. Sophomore Aubrie Cantrell shot for two points. Weiberg made two points. Atoka made two free throws after being fouled, followed by a three pointer. Weiberg made two more points. Atoka made back-to-back two-point shots. Stumblingbear made a two-point jump shot. Madill fouled sending Atoka to make one free throw. Weiberg closed out the third quarter with two points and the Lady Wildcats leading 43 to 35.

Weiberg popped a three pointer to start the fourth quarter. Madill fouled sending Atoka for two free throw points. Weiberg swished another three points. Atoka scored five more points. Ximena Gomez and Stumblingbear had consecutive two pointers. Atoka answered with four more points, then Weiberg added two more points. Atoka bounced back with two points. Mendez was fouled and made one free throw. Ximena Gomez was fouled to score one free throw. Mendez was then fouled for one free throw, followed by Ximena Gomez with one free throw. The Lady Wildcats won the game 59 to 50.

The boys action started with Northcutt shooting for two points. The Wampuscats clapped back with back-to-back two-point shots. Northcutt had a two-point jump shot, but Atoka added four more points. Northcutt shot for two points. Atoka went to the line for one free throw. Fuentes made a two-point layup. Atoka made another back-to-back twopoint shots. Fuentes swished a three-point shot followed by Coles with two points. The first quarter ended tied 13 to 13.

Fuentes made two points to start the second quarter. Atoka responded and added another two points. Fuentes slammed a three–pointer. Atoka added two more points. Northcutt added consecutive two-point shots. Duran hit nothing but net for three points. Atoka answered with two points. Duran replayed his earlier score and hit nothing but net again for three points. Then, Robertson shot for two points. Duran hit another three–pointer. Atoka made two more points. Sophomore RJ Morris was fouled for two free throws. The Wildcats led 35 to 21 at halftime.

Atoka opened the second half with two points. Then, Robertson made two more points. Northcutt was sent to the line for one free throw. Atoka popped a three pointer, but Duran answered back with a three-pointer of his own, followed by two more points. Atoka was fouled for one free throw, but Fuentes added two more points. Atoka added four more points. Fuentes closed the third quarter with two points where Madill led 47 to 31.

The fourth quarter started with Atoka making a three– pointer. Fuentes shot for two, with Atoka following for two more points. Fuentes shot for another two points. Then, the Wampuscats added five more points to the board. River Shaw was fouled and went to the lone for one free throw. Atoka again added two more points. Duran added another two for the Wildcats. Junior Javier Gomez had two points and Robertson added three more points to the board. Atoka was fouled and made two free throws but it was not enough to beat the Wildcats. The final score was 59 to 45.

Madill will host the Marietta Indians on Friday, February 5, and will travel to Lone Grove on Tuesday, February 9.
