In an incredible honor for both him and his community, Christian Smith, a dedicated 16-year-old basketball player from Madill High School, has been selected to represent the United States on the Spain Cup Tour. Organized by PhD Hoops USA, this once-in-alifetime opportunity will take place from June 14 to June 22, 2026, allowing Smith to showcase his skills on an international stage.
Smith’s selection came as a result of his exceptional talent, playing ability and character. He was recruited through the National College Scouting Association (NCSA), standing out among numerous applicants for his commitment to the sport. He said he’s ready to learn from some of the best in the sport.
“I’m really excited about the chance to learn and play with some of the best talent out there,” Smith said.
This will be his first time traveling abroad and he will be accompanied by his father, making it a memorable experience for the family.
The Smith family, which includes five boys aged 4 to 17 who are all involved in sports and theater, is rallying support from the community to help fund this unique opportunity.

Smith’s hard work is evident in his daily routine; he wakes up at 4:30 a.m. for extra workouts before a 40-minute drive to school. As an honor roll student and a role model for his younger brothers, he said he understands the importance of perseverance.
“My inspiration comes from my village, reminding me that if I keep putting in the work, I will continue to be rewarded,” he said.
